Kim is a Registered Social Worker who lives in Burlington, Ontario. Her central location allows her to effectively provide services throughout the Hamilton, Niagara, London, Guelph, Kitchener, Caledon, Orangeville, Niagara, Barrie, and Greater Toronto Regions.
Kim holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Windsor and has an Honours Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. She remains a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
Kim has been a Canadian Certified Life Care Planner since 2007, and is a member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals. As the owner and clinical director of Focus Rehabilitation Consulting, Kim remains committed to providing high-quality, professional, client-focused care and services to individuals and their families as they progress through the acute-care, rehabilitation, and post-rehabilitation recovery stages.
Kim's full-time career in healthcare started in 1991. She has worked in many different clinical settings over the course of her academic and professional career, including a long-term care environment for persons with severe developmental disabilities, complex continuing care, inpatient and outpatient hospital-based neuro-behavioural rehabilitation programs, as well as, emergency room, surgical trauma floor, and neuropsychiatry services. In 1997, Kim had the opportunity to join a respected and reputable personal injury law firm, where she applied her skills and knowledge to assist clients immersed in the complexities of the Ontario accident benefits insurance and litigation claims processes. Over the past 17 years, Kim has provided case management, and (since 2012) social work services to clients and their families in their community environments - the places where they live, work, and play. This has remained her most meaningful work.
Over the course of her career, Kim has had the opportunity to work with many different people of all ages, abilities, cultures and backgrounds. She considers it a privilege to serve her clients and their families and to provide guidance and support at some of the most vulnerable and difficult times in their lives. Their stories and experiences remain with her forever.
Kim brings a strengths-based and client-focused approach to the care that she provides to her clients, whether in the capacity as a rehabilitation case manager, a social worker, or a life care planner. She also practices with an outcome-oriented and evidence-informed focus, and aims to help clients enhance their capacity to self-manage their health and care needs. She remains a committed life-long learner - regularly taking post-graduate courses and attending professional conferences, both locally and internationally, to provide the best service she can to her clients. She has been invited to speak at various conferences and enjoys giving inservice presentations to various agencies and community partners. Kim also volunteers as a representative as co-chair of the Ontario Association of Social Worker's (OASW's) MVA-sector practice group. She is also the OASW's representative on the Coalition of Health Professions working in the MVA sector. Kim continues to regularly support various other OASW initiatives and social work colleagues in this specialized area of practice.
Kim grew up in a rural setting in Hastings County and has always had a propensity to take care of others. When not working, Kim enjoys spending time with her family, as well as, volunteering as a navigation coach and board member for the Hamilton-based, non-profit, Adventure Running Kids program. She is happy doing "anything outdoorsy" and is a regular participant in the sports of orienteering (trying not to get lost in the forest) and is often out running the trails, hiking, attending crossfit, or camping and canoeing. You will also occasionally find her in the kitchen on her eternal quest to perfect the art and science of pie pastry.
